Edinburgh Architecture
 http://www.edinburgharchitecture.co.uk/

This site acts as an information source for all things related to contemporary Edinburgh architecture. It aims to "inform both locals and an international audience of Edinburgh's architecture scene". Although the colour-scheme is somewhat garish, this doesn't detract from the site's usability. The homepage is clear and succinct as is the layout of each page. Moreover, you have to admire the work that has gone into the content of this site. It is an extremely informative site, with relative information for everything related to the local architectural world. There is an extensive links page (boasting links to 300 other Edinburgh sites), a contacts page with the details of local architects, and an excellent events page detailing the latest exhibitions, events and reviews, which is archived back to 2000, and is updated daily. Interaction is included in the news page which "acts as a resource and as a forum for discussion of topical issues, new buildings and masterplans". An impressive feature of the site are the area maps of Edinburgh that detail possible tours of the city's architectural highlights. For anyone interested in the architecture of Edinburgh, this is the place to head. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [DJP/GAS, 30 Jan 2008].

Glasgow Architecture
 http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/

Written by Adrian Welch, like its Edinbugh Architecture sibling, Glasgow Architecture is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in the city's contemporary architecture and architects. Features of the site include a historical introduction to Glasgow by Johnny Rodger, up-to-date news and events, a directory of Glasgow architects, and a good range of links to related books and websites. The highlight of the site is probably its Tours section; 'Historic Glasgow' features "the best Glasgow buildings of the past", while 'Glasgow Tours' covers "the best Glasgow buildings of the last three decades". While the former is strong on historical background and detail, the latter features some excellent images. [GAS, 4 Oct 2005].

Scottish City Architecture
 http://www.scotcities.com/

Scottish City Architecture provides an exploration of the varied architecture of Scotland's two largest cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, illustrated with the original drawings of Gerry Blaikie. The site has sections devoted to specific areas of both cities, including Glasgow's Merchant City and Edinburgh's Royal Mile. It also features an interesting section looking at the evolution of multi-storey structures in Glasgow's commercial heart; dedicated pages examining the architecture of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh; and a nice page of links relating to Scotland's architectural heritage. The overall impression is of a lovingly created site, with the informative text truly brought to life by the accompaniment of Blaikie's beautiful drawings. Awarded a Sapling Commendation.
