Anglia Ruskin University - Department of the Built Environment
 --NEW URL-- http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/faculties/fst/departments/builtenv.html

These pages for the Department of the Built Environment at Anglia Ruskin University (formerly Anglia Polytechnic University/APU) feature details about undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction and Surveying, together with information about staff and research. A built environment reading list includes recommended texts for the Department's modules, but is useful for anyone doing work around those themes. [GAS, 25 Oct 2006].

The College of Estate Management
 http://www.cem.ac.uk/

Formed in 1919, Reading's College of Estate Management describes itself as "the leading international body providing distance learning education and training to the property professions and construction industry". The site provides comprehensive coverage of the College's history, purpose, courses and training, with an excellent research section showcasing CEM's specialist research service in property-related fields. This section features a great deal of resource content, including many freely downloadable reports and a worthwhile links page. [MG/RS/GAS, 9 Sep 2006].

Heriot-Watt University - School of the Built Environment
 http://www.sbe.hw.ac.uk/

The School of the Built Environment describes itself as offering "an almost unique range of educational opportunities spanning the diverse range of professions involved in the planning, design, construction and development of our environment and infrastructure". Closely integrated with the main University website, the SBE pages include detailed and up-to-date information about the School, its courses and its research. With good content and a sleek, professional look, this site ticks all the right boxes; on the downside, partly due to the lack of images, it seems to lack much personality and all feels rather sterile. Leeds Metropolitan University - School of the Built Environment
 http://www.leedsmet.ac.uk/as/benv/

According to its website, the School of the Built Environment at Leeds Met has "achieved national and international recognition for research and consultancy. It offers opportunities for higher degree study by research and has a thriving programme of short courses for continuing professional development". Features of the site include a profile of the School, a reasonably up-to-date news section, and details of the School's research and consultancy activity. Links to course information elsewhere on the Leeds Met site are provided, together with an introduction to the School's subject areas - Surveying and Architectural Technology; Construction and Project Management; Planning, Housing and Human Geography; and Civil Engineering. The site is neatly designed, but by sharing the rather insipid aeshetic of the main Leeds Met site it seems weak at communicating an identity for the School. Equally, the addition of images, staff profiles, and details of publications would add some personality to the School's online presence. [GAS, 29 Apr 2006].

RGU: Scott Sutherland School
 http://www.rgu.ac.uk/sss/

The Scott Sutherland School at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen "prides itself in the development of innovative courses that address the future needs of practice and which challenge out-moded conventions". The School's site is attractive and reasonably informative, with sections covering staff, (out of date) news and events, research, and its undergraduate and postgraduate courses in architecture, architectural technology, construction management and surveying. A links section features relevant construction and architecture sites. [GAS, 10 Sep 2005].

University of Nottingham - School of the Built Environment
 http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/sbe/

Nottingham's School of the Built Environment combines the Institutes of Architecture, Building Technology and Urban Planning with the newly created Institute of Sustainable Energy Technology (ISET); the School as a whole is described as a "leading centre for research and teaching with excellent facilities and a wide range of research programmes". The site features information about the School and its courses, plus details of news, events, staff and research, all within a neat - if slightly dry - interface. [GAS, 3 Jun 2006].
